Martin Fraas named 2021 Hellman Fellow

Martin Fraas, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, has been named a 2021 Hellman Fellow. He will be pursuing the project entitled Microscopic Theory of Anyons in the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect. The Hellman family inaugurated the Hellman Fellows Program in 1994 to support junior faculty research by making grants to junior faculty at 14 institutions: the ten campuses of the University of California along with the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Harvard Business School, Stanford University, and Williams College. Congratulations Martin!

Assist. Prof. Isaac Kim joins UC Davis CS

UC Davis Computer Science is expanding its efforts in Quantum Information. Dr. Isaac Kim, a theorist working on quantum computing and quantum many-body physics, has joined the department as an Assistant Professor and an NSF Quantum Computing and Information Science Faculty Fellow.

Nachtergaele Wins Carl Friedrich von Siemens Research Award

Bruno Nachtergaele, distinguished professor of mathematics, has received a Carl Friedrich von Siemens Research Award in recognition of his lifetime achievements in mathematics. Given annually by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, award winners receive a 60,000 euro cash prize and a travel stipend to spend up to one year in Germany collaborating with colleagues on a long-term research project.
